
ABOUT THIS EVENT
This course offers a comprehensive exploration of mindfulness and meditation practices, grounded in both theoretical understanding and practical application and presented through a Geek-centric lens. Participants will delve into the historical roots and foundational principles of mindfulness and meditation, gaining insights into their diverse cultural and spiritual origins. Through a combination of experiential learning and scholarly inquiry, students will develop a deep understanding of the psychological and physiological benefits of mindfulness, including stress reduction, emotional regulation, and enhanced cognitive functioning. They will learn and practice a variety of mindfulness and meditation techniques, ranging from focussed attention to loving-kindness meditation, with opportunities to explore their application in different contexts. With a focus on ethical considerations and cultural sensitivity, participants will examine the integration of mindfulness into clinical settings and beyond, exploring its potential for promoting mental health and well-being among diverse populations. Throughout the program, emphasis will be placed on personal growth and self-awareness, as participants cultivate their own mindfulness practice and reflect on its implications for individual and collective thriving.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this workshop, the learner will be able to:

- Learn and practice different mindfulness and meditation techniques, such as focused attention, body scan, loving-kindness (Metta) Meditation, and mindful movement. (LO3)
- Explore the role of mindfulness and meditation in promoting mental health and well-being, including their application in the treatment of anxiety, depression, PTSD, and other psychological disorders (LO4)
- Analyze the integration of mindfulness and meditation into various clinical settings, such as psychotherapy, healthcare, education, and workplace wellness programs. (LO5)

Jemarc Axinto (They/She/He) is a Filipinx, Nonbinary, Subclinical Mental Health provider working as a Trauma Recovery Coach and Wellness Consultant with a deep practice rooted in Tibetan Buddhism and a holistic view of spirituality and wellness. They have dedicated over a decade of their life to the actualization of a mind, body, spirit no longer withheld by trauma, labels, and roles. They’ve transformed this deep study into an alchemical process rooted at the intersection of science and spirituality. This process, Alchemizing Authenticity™, empowers everyone to actualize their most authentic selves and radically rewire their brains to heal trauma at its root in their nervous system. They are an international consultant and speaker on topics of wellbeing, burnout, trauma recovery, psychedelic medicine, QTBIPOC wellness and social justice. They have presented programs that help professionals in the for profit and nonprofit sector nationally.
In 2022 Axinto created IGNITE Wellbeing™, and Recover from ReActivism™, two wellness initiatives curated especially for professional environments and advocacy environments respectively. These programs ensure and emphasize the importance of individual well being for the empowerment of the collective. Axinto guides participants in holistic wellness programming that prioritizes the self, and recognizes the interdependency needed for people to thrive in any space they may find themselves in.
In 2023 Axinto founded Queer Liberation™, a 5 day spiritual wellness retreat held in the Poconos Mountains annually. Queer Liberation™ is a program curated by and for Queer and Trans bodies and beings to support them in their endeavors to feel truly safe within themselves.
