
About this Event
This course is designed for post-doctoral professionals seeking to enhance their clinical practice through the integration of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) techniques using popular anime and other elements of pop culture. Participants will gain an understanding of how to apply specific DBT skills through accessible and relatable media, allowing them to translate therapeutic concepts effectively to their client populations. By the end of the course, clinicians will have the knowledge and tools to engage clients more dynamically using culturally relevant examples, enhancing therapeutic outcomes.

Learning Objectives:
- Participants will be able to identify and highlight applied uses for at least three DBT techniques.
- Participants will be able to utilize examples from popular anime shows and movies as effective models for applying DBT skills.
- Participants will learn how to utilize their own pop culture examples to translate DBT skills to their client populations.
Course Instructor:
Beverly Griffor holds a PhD in Psychology, with concentrations in forensic psychology and neuropsychology. She has studied trauma, child testimony, capacity, and offender rehabilitation. Much of her work focuses on application of scientific research in the courtroom. Beverly has previously done forensic, neuropsychological, and clinical work in the Ann Arbor area. Beverly completed her internship with McCaskill Family Services and is now the Clinical Director at RIFN’s Arbor Mountain Therapy & Assessment as a Licensed Psychologist. She has worked with the Research Institute for Forensic Neuropsychology since 2014 in various capacities.

Graduated from Colorado State University with a double Bachelor’s in Psychology and Sociology, where I focused on Gender Identity formation, and LGBTQIA+ issues. Specifically, those in relation to the Transgender population and access to health-care and mental health counseling by knowledgeable counseling professionals and doctors. I then went on to my Master’s at Walden University where I continued this track and become actively involved in the ACA’s ALGBTIC division and served on the committee for making language in documentation more accessible and gender neutral. I picked up a specialization in Crisis & Trauma after working for Hospice and volunteering at the local LGBT centers around my hometown and university. Eventually I made my way to Florida from Colorado. Gamer/Neet/Anime Weeb and all around enjoyer of life’s little self-care routines.
