About this Event
Participants through a comprehensive exploration of the complex relationships between video gaming, social media use, and mental health. First, participants will delve into the key elements of video games, especially in relation to teenagers and their parents, as well as the neurological impacts of gaming. They will examine the connection between gaming and gambling and learn to critically analyze interventions for individuals struggling with disordered gaming. In addition, participants will explore the mental health effects of social media use by analyzing current research and discussing evidence-based strategies to help those grappling with social media-related issues. Finally, participants will develop a deeper understanding of counseling approaches and treatment options for clients facing Gaming Disorder or problematic screen use, equipping them to apply effective therapeutic interventions in practice. Through this holistic approach, participants will be able to critically assess and address the challenges associated with gaming and screen use in today’s digital world.

Learning Objectives:
- Participants will explore and identify different elements of video games related to teenagers, their parents, neurological impacts, and the link between gaming and gambling as well as critically analyze interventions for those struggling with disordered gaming.
- Participants will analyze research on the impact of social media use on mental health and discuss evidence-based solutions for those struggling with social media problems.
- Participants will critically analyze effective treatment options and counseling theories when working with clients engaged in Gaming Disorder or problematic screen use.
Course Instructor:
Jeremy Edge, LPC-S, IGDC is the owner and founder of the counseling practice, Escapingthe.com, PLLC. Jeremy is an International Gaming Disorder Certified counselor which is the leading certification for working with people with Gaming Disorder. He’s also obtained the Digital Wellness Certificate through the Digital Wellness Institute. He provides counseling services to help clients experience balanced, healthy screen use. After personally experiencing the negative effects of problematic gaming, Jeremy devoted his work to helping those find balance with online activities. In addition to problematic screen use, Jeremy works well with men of all ages and his team works with teens, young adults, adults, and families. He received his Master’s degree in Community Counseling at UT San Antonio and Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from UT Tyler. Jeremy is married to a pediatrician and they live in Dallas with their two kids.
