
About this Event
In this course, participants will explore the spectrum of dissociation, identifying its various forms while debunking popular myths commonly associated with dissociative experiences. They will also define Ego State Therapy and examine how it can be integrated with existing evidence-based practices to enhance therapeutic outcomes. Additionally, participants will analyze the Proteus effect, describing how it can contribute to ego strengthening through the use of video game scenarios and character customization, using practical examples to illustrate how virtual identities and avatars can positively influence self-perception and personal growth.

Course Instructor:
April Luman is a licensed mental health counselor and clinical supervisor in the state of Washington where she completed her Master of Arts in Counseling at Saint Martin’s University in 2017. April’s background is rooted in behavioral psychology which led to treatment of low-income families and foster youth. After experiencing these populations and the high prevalence of trauma, April pursued a more trauma-informed track of counseling. She is now trained in evidence-based models such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR) and is a member of the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA). April is currently attending trainings in ego state therapy (EST), hypnotherapy, and is enrolled in the professional training program focused on the treatment of complex trauma and dissociation through the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISSTD) of which she is currently a member.
